    Adonna

Adonna is a Massachusetts transplant from Brooklyn, NY. She came to MA in 2005 to attend Eastern Nazarene College where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Religion in 2012. During this time, Adonna served as the Program Coordinator for The Center for Responsibility and Justice’s arts-based initiatives and in 2012, was able to take a team of 6 interns to teach different artistic modalities in the Bronx, NY. It was this experience that expanded Adonna’s passion for working with youth while also expanding her understanding of the transformative power of artistic engagement. Adonna became the Office Manager for ESAC’s GED Plus Program, an educational program for at-risk youth in Boston, where she was able to create a spoken word class called the V.O.I.C.E. Scheme, prior to becoming the program’s Case Manager. In the fall of 2014, Adonna began her journey towards her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Specialization in Expressive Arts Therapy at Lesley University. She completed internships at both Boston Youth Sanctuary and Roger Williams Medical Center’s Dual Diagnosis Unit. After the completion of her thesis on using photography as a therapeutic intervention in 2017, Adonna began working as a Group/ per diem Clinician at the C.A.S.T.L.E. Program, an adolescent detox facility. Engaging with so many clients who were living with unprocessed trauma caused Adonna to fully appreciate the importance of early intervention trauma work. Adonna returned to Boston Youth Sanctuary as an Expressive Arts Therapist/Child Clinician, where she was able to be trained in TF-CBT.

Adonna believes in a strength-based, person-centered approach to therapy. Every client is the expert on their experience and on what they need regardless of their age. Adonna has learned that sometimes the most powerful seed sown is simply an “alternative conversation,” where a variety of artistic or expressive modalities may be utilized to increase personal insight or growth. Adonna is excited to be joining the Leading Light Behavioral Health team and is looking forward to partnering with an array of clients on their life’s journey.
